How much does a sub-domain cost?

I've come up 404 recently when trying to find sub-sets of sites. For example:

There's http://python.oreilly.com but not http://python.oreillyNET.com

Today I clunked at http://python.xml.com

Other ones come to mind: http://python.onlamp.com/ ;, http://python.devshed.com, http://python.apache.org, http://python.activestate.com/ ;and what would be truly insightful: http://python.google.com .

Would this make a more friendly URL, or just make too many entry points? What other costs are there besides administration? Are administration costs that high? (SSL certificate, configuration, ??)

My apologies if these 404 URL's are rendered.

Python XML Binding + XML Schema binding

Uche Ogbuji has just written a summary of the various Python XML Data Bindings over at www.xml.com.

I ended up at Dave Kuhlman's home page and came across his generateDS.py which (most importantly to me) contains "A parser that will read an XML document which satisfies the XML Schema from which the parser was generated. The parser creates and populates a tree structure of instances of the generated Python classes." I haven't played with it yet.

This is a nifty feature of Visual Studio.Net for XML Schemas which I was looking for a Python counterpart several months ago.
