Rutabaga Report

So I'm trying to grow Square Rutabagas.  The plan is that once I've got one the size of a quarter I'll replant it in a SPAM can.  When it nears the edges, insert a block of wood to ensure I don't end up with rectangle rutabaga.  This effort is gauged on my priority list just above upgrading from Windows ME to XP (and probably due to convenience.)

  1. Bought Turnips (Didn't mail order bona fide rutabaga. 10 cent packet of synonym veggie works for me.)
  2. Planted in 3 inch terra cotta pots. Place out of direct sunlight, out of rainfall.
  3. Lots-o-sprouts, soon to wither.
  4. Planted more in 6 inch pot next to dying Aloe plant.  Others here and there, including replanting in the terra cotta.  A few next to a plant at work by my desk. Moved into sun.
  5. Sprout, Spoil, except for Aloe friend and work plant.

Currently the sprouts at work are about 3 inches long with some small leaves at the end.  The Aloe plant has about had it, but there is a good number of thick wide leaves coming from the turnip seed area.  Roots aren't bulbous.  There is hope.

The garden my boys and I planted out back has been mostly eaten by critters. Need to put a fence up. Today there was some toddler joy over some 2nd year rubarb plants.

For the last 2 years I've re-grown Morning Glories volunteered the first year we moved here, and gave away seeds or sprouts at our annual all-city garage sale.  Quite fun. My only gardening success.  It's helpful to have something to keep you semi-busy while hosting a garage sale.

Writing Style Note: Think of it as a bored telegrapher, without all the annoying STOPs.

Python NOT so overlooked by Apple

Via Guido's 2.3b2 Release email I learned that there is more ground gained at Apple with Python:

"I can now mention why I suddenly wanted to accelerate 2.3's schedule.

At EuroPython I was cornered by the key Macpython developers with
exciting news: Apple's next release of Mac OSX, code-named Panther,
uses Python and Apple is planning to include Python 2.3 in that
release.  (Apple already ships Mac OSX with Python 2.2 included in the
developer tools, but Panther will actually use Python for some
essential functionality.)"
- Guido van Rossum [link]

Nifty. Back in March I wondered if, or Why does Apple overlook Python?
