Yo Yo Ma in switch ad.

Today I was caught by surprise when learning the captivating switch ad I just stopped to watch was hosted by Yo Yo Ma. [Link]  This is most impressive, but don't go hoping for a Mister Rogers' switch ad.  It's through his show that I know who the excellent cellist is.

Trackball update eBay shipping rant.

Today I came across a Microsoft Optical Trackball (1.0) at Wal-Mart for just under $30. The price was about what I've seen it for at eBay, including shipping.

I'm getting used to it, but like it better than the finger curl-smash trackpad. Mostly getting used to leaving my whole arm flat on the table, and need to get used to using middle-click scroll helper instead of the scroll wheel.  Wonder how that works in Mozilla.  Heck, Mozilla has guestures...right?

Rant: I may use either more if they handled shipping costs differently. 1. Put it in the same place on every page. 2. Add it into the price displayed on every query.  3. Empower sellers to gather shipping details: Size/Weight, Sending Location, Shipping type so that the shipping value can be calculated on-the-fly by using MY prefered shipper's quotes for the shipment based on the sellers provided details.  Sound sticky? Sure, but electronic Auctions are sticky, and eBay mastered it.

The eBay feedback forum is about buyers/sellers, not the service/software, and the contact page doesn't include an email address.  I'm sure it's somewhere, just not quite intuitive. There's reasons for that too, but I'm through speculating tonight. Maybe it's intuitive, I've been known to overlook the obvious on many occasions.

ZWiki idea needs reviewing, and other ZWiki happenings.

I had a eureka moment today so posted it at ZWiki:

"For those interested in ZwikiTracker-like feature implementation for stuff
like ZwikiRoadMap and what-not, please stop by ZwikiDataTable and add your
critique and comments."

Keeping a product robust, yet still holding true to "Do one thing, and do it well" is hard.  I beleive that when this statement is limited to mission/vision/spirit the product will be appropriately alligned.  Legalistically applying this to functionality may cause more work than benefit...but that's what I'm hoping to find out.

In other news, their RecentChanges received an overhaul and Jeffrey Shell gives gives a seasoned Zope developer's perspective on ZWiki in this Industrie Toulouse post.
